AjA Project Art Installation Underway in Legacy Plaza
An innovative art installation from The AjA Project is underway in the Fieldstone Legacy Plaza at NTC Promenade. Entitled “underSTAND: laid under our feet, unveil where we stand,” it features a collection of stories by refugee youth in San Diego depicting the experience of war, displacement, migration, and identity exploration, done through words and images overlaid on the Plaza.
Created by renown artist Shinpei Takeda, when the installation is viewed up close the words tell the stories of AjA Project youth participants from Afghanistan, Iraq, Somalia, Cambodia, Sudan, Burma, Mexico, while an aerial view reveals their images through the text. According to Shin, “This exhibit is an invitation to underSTAND both perspectives—to step inside and outside of the story; to see both words and images; to reflect and act—and to ask the critical question: how do I choose to underSTAND?”
Celebrate Human Rights Day with the ACLU and the AjA Project at a celebration of student-expression and reception to inaugurate AjA's installation of underSTAND on Thursday, December 10th from 6pm- 8pm at The New Americans Museum at the NTC Promenade. Contact AjA at 619 223-7001 for information.
Best Kept Secret Unveiled
The best place in San Diego to have a meeting, special event, festival, rehearsal, class or 5K has been a well-veiled secret for too long. But the veil is beginning to lift.
The Venues of NTC Promenade have long been loved by those clients who already know the secret. Such groups as San Diego Magazine, Girls Scouts of America, Ballast Point Brewery, Young Audiences and Union Tribune return again and again. San Diego Fleet Week, Arthritis Foundation, Boeing and TechnoPower Marketing have recently discovered the venues and made plans to come back again.
Thanks to these and other groups we were able to beat the odds as we grew amidst a dismal economy. Working in our favor was perhaps our non-profit status and remarkable state-of-the-art facilities. Of course, the beautiful setting and historical significance were also helpful.
Our sales team goes above and beyond to book groups into both the indoor and outdoor venues. We try to be flexible with recession-friendly pricing and, of course, offer superior customer service.
As we look ahead to 2010, we are encouraged as more individuals and organizations learn of the venues. We are forming strategic alliances with key vendors and are widening our services as well as our target markets. On any given day at NTC Promenade you can find a prom, 5K walk, seminar, craft fair, fundraiser, art show, dance rehearsal, military ball, board retreat or high-level meeting.
When will you have one of your events here? Do you have a friend or colleague who would enjoy learning about the venues? Please spread the word!
For more information about how we can help you with your event, call (619) 573-9260 or go to www.ntcpromenade.com and click on Venues.
