ON POINT - August 2009

Behind the Scenes at NTC Promenade” Civic Community Forum – August 11th, 5:00pm – 6:00pm at the NTC Command Center (map).

Congratulations Conrad Prebys—Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year

The NTC Foundation was proud to be one of the nominators for Conrad Prebys as San Diego’s Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year. We look forward to celebrating this achievement and recognition at National Philanthropy Day, November 3, 2009.

From arts and culture to healthcare, Mr.Prebys has made a lasting imprint on our community. NTC Foundation knows this first-hand, as Mr. Prebys generously donated to NTC Foundation’s Point Loma Legacy Campaign to transform the former Commanding Officer’s Headquarters into the NTC Command Center, a “Welcome and Information Center” for NTC and Point Loma. In addition, his support allowed the NTC Foundation to move forward with the first phase of the Point Loma exhibit in the NTC Command Center. With use of historic objects and oral histories, the Point Loma exhibit captures the story of Point Loma and Point Loma families. With Mr. Prebys’ help, NTC Promenade is becoming a landmark destination for both visitors and locals to enjoy.

Mr. Prebys has made a significant impact on NTC Foundation and we congratulate him on this well-deserved award.

You too can make a difference. Please consider making a gift to NTC Foundation to help us translate the community’s vision for NTC Promenade into a new Arts and Culture District that will increase the quality of life for all San Diegans. Donate now!

Walking for Fun or Fundraising

As the name suggests, NTC Promenade is a popular place for walking. Any day of the week you can see mothers pushing strollers or dogs leading their owners, but now there is a new breed of walks taking place.

Many of the established walks and relays have discovered NTC Promenade as the perfect place for their 5K or relay. Recently, the American Cancer Society held their regional Relay for Life in the North Promenade. Teams from Point Loma and Ocean Beach walked for 24 hours around the perimeter of the promenade, signifying that cancer never sleeps and neither should the fight against it. The event included live bands and performances, community vendors, and moving ceremonies including one honoring cancer survivors and the lighting of luminaries around the perimeter of the track in honor or in memory of those who have fought cancer. The Venues of NTC Promenade was represented by a wonderful team of volunteers who walked and contributed to the fundraising efforts.

Some of the other organizations that have held or have scheduled 5Ks include the Kinder Foundation, Arthritis Foundation, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Girl Scouts, Everyday Heroes and the American Diabetes Association.

We work with the Liberty Station community to design courses that uphold all safety standards, positively impact the area, and allow for community involvement.

If you would like more information on walks and relays at NTC Promenade, call a member of our team at (619) 573-9260.
