Add A Little “Green” To Your Next Event
The Green movement is impacting the world of meetings and events. While it’s difficult to make an event truly green, here are some guidelines and tips to lighten your environmental impact.
- Initial Planning & Communications
Alert your sponsors, vendors, volunteers and staff of your intent for a greener event, and ask for ideas. Publicize your commitment to a green event as part of your marketing plan. - Go Paperless
Use online registration or email invitations and replies. Are conference handouts functional or will they simply be thrown away? Where printing is required use recycled paper or tree free options like bamboo or hemp and print on both sides of the paper. - Food & Beverages
Ask your caterer about seasonal foods and tap into local organic food sources. Many caterers will work with you to help green your event. - Décor
Try to use natural decorations such as live plants and freshly cut local flowers to give your event an overtly natural theme. If you purchase decorations, choose items that can be re-used or donated to a local charity. - Waste Management
Aim to have a zero waste event. Consider recycling. Solar powered restrooms are a great option for outdoor events. Here at NTC Promenade, we do our best to recycle everything we can by offering regular and recyclable trash receptacles for your clients. - Energy
Turn off projectors and laptops when not in use. Use natural light when possible and turn out lights that are unnecessary. Consider acoustic music or a battery operated sound system.
While many of these tips are subtle; try to have one aspect that is unabashedly green to stir up curiosity with your attendees - that way your event can also double as a way to raise awareness of environmental issues. When people are curious, they are more receptive to learning. Your event may become a model that others will follow!
The Venues of NTC Promenade are set in a beautiful “green” locale. The park-like setting is ideal for any meeting or event. For more information on how you can host your next green event at The Venues of NTC Promenade contact Kathie Conway, Event Sales Manager, at (619) 573-9309.
